My stay at Ryokan Tamura in Kusatsu was truly exceptional. The private onsen bathroom added a luxurious touch to the traditional ryokan experience. The room was meticulously designed, blending modern comforts with Japanese aesthetics. The private onsen was a serene oasis, allowing for a relaxing soak in the mineral-rich waters with complete privacy. The staff's attention to detail and hospitality were remarkable, enhancing the overall stay. The kaiseki dinner served was a culinary delight, showcasing the finest local ingredients. Ryokan Tamura is a perfect choice for those seeking a tranquil and culturally enriching getaway.

I really loved the whole experience at Ryokan Tamura. I felt very relaxed and pampered since dinner and breakfast was served, and we loved using the onsen. We asked for vegan food, and they informed us that the broth may contain dashi, but for us that was ok. The food was delicious and we got to try some of the traditional Japanese cuisine consisting of mainly vegetables. There were men only and women only onsens, and two private onsens. The water was super warm and relaxing. The staff was also very welcoming and nice and spoke english.

Ryokan Tamura is an amazing accommodation experience. It is located close to town centre and the building is beautifully decorated with traditional details that make it feel warm and welcoming. Our hosts were very kind and made our stay special. Very highly commended them on the food. They were able to provide a vegan meal for breakfast and dinner which was amazing! The food was fresh and delicious and it was clear how much care went into the preparation.

This is an old-school Ryokan with exceptionally friendly staff who bent over backwards to help me. Having stayed in a few Ryokan-style inns on my trip, Tamura was by fat the best. With a lovely room, traditional robes provided and beautiful lavish meals which were served in the room in the floor below while my room was made up for sleeping. Breakfast and dinner including a variety of meat, fish and vegetable dishes and even shabu shabu which I'd always wanted to try. After making a friend in town I invited them back to share my dinner with me and the hotel provided extra food and amenities at no extra cost.

Unequivocally the highlight of anywhere we stayed throughout our month long journey through Japan. Everything was perfect at Ryokan Tamura, everything. Staff that did their best to communicate with us despite a language barrier, a phenomenally beautiful, traditional room, and meals that were the best we ate in all of Japan, hands down. I would like to personally thank all the staff for making our stay in Kusatsu so memorable, and becoming the highlight of our travels through your stunning country. Do not ever hesitate in booking a stay at Ryokan Tamura!

The staff was very nice and always made an effort to make our stay comfortable. The breakfast and dinner was very tasty and traditional. We would eat in another room while the staff makes our bed or puts it away for the day. The private baths were clean and very comfortable. Most of the time at least one or both private baths were available, so we could always take a bath when we wanted. Right in front of the Ryokan is a new public footbath and around the corner a nice Café and a library. I recommend Ryokan Tamura and would always come back!

Charming inn with comfortable beds. Tea and wagashi provided in room upon arrival (the tea is available for you to make yourself). Two private onsen baths available on site - it's a first come first served basis, but we had no issues with that and were able to enjoy a private bath each day. Breakfast was a delicious, traditional meal. If you are not used to Japanese breakfast, you might find it a bit odd, but if you go in with the expectation to have a traditional breakfast, you will not be disappointed!

The warm welcome from the owners, the traditional style rooms, the private onsen you can use either by yourself or as a couple with no need to reserve it. The delicious Japanese dinner and breakfast in our own private eating room. They even made our beds up for us while we ate so we didn't have to do anything.

Location was right off the central onsen/square of Kusatsu. Very convenient, calm and quiet. The ryokan itself had 2 private and 2 gendered onsens that were almost always available for our own use and I will absolutely stay here again if I visit Kusatsu again.

Really lovely stay. Delicious food and a really quiet and peaceful dining experience in a room by ourselves. The private hot spring baths were amazing, they were always available. Close to the centre of Kusatsu and the Yubatake.
